Severe IndyCar Crash: Newgarden and Foster Lucky to Escape Unharmed

A serious incident shook the IndyCar race yesterday when Josef Newgarden and rookie Louis Foster were involved in a violent crash on lap 131.

The incident began when Foster’s number 45 car lost control in turn 4 — sliding into the outer wall after catching dirty air from Santino Ferrucci’s car. The damaged car then spun toward the inside wall.

Six seconds later, Newgarden, running behind Rinus VeeKay, attempted to avoid Foster’s spinning car. However, his effort failed — his number 2 Chevrolet crashed hard and flipped over, sliding with sparks flying until the start-finish line.

“I spent too long trying the high line. Behind Ferrucci, the car wobbled and got too high into the dirty stuff. After the toe link bent, I couldn’t control the car,” Foster explained after the incident.

The AMR safety team quickly flipped Newgarden’s car over. Both drivers managed to exit their cars on their own and were cleared after medical examination. The race continued under yellow flag for SAFER Barrier repairs, before returning to green flag conditions on lap 150.
