RRQ Valorant Coach Tempers Their First-ever Masters Euphoria

RRQ Valorant has made itself known in the global VCT community after clinching a spot at Masters Toronto with a thrilling 2-1 victory over DRX yesterday afternoon (27/04) and progressing to the upper bracket finals at VCT Pacific 2025: Stage 1. But as fans revel in their victory, head coach Marthinus “Ewok” Walt is quick to remind everyone that the team’s mission is far from complete.

Over recent weeks, RRQ has showcased remarkable consistency, carrying high expectations from fans and analysts as one of the Pacific region’s top contenders for Toronto. The Indonesian King ultimately lived up to the hype, overcoming DRX’s fierce resistance in a nail-biting final map that went into overtime.

The victory ignited euphoria among Indonesian supporters, particularly RRQ Kingdom, as the team secured its first-ever Masters qualification.

Contrary to the celebratory mood, Ewok remained grounded, emphasizing that his team thrives without the pressure of being favorites. In an interview with Valo2Asia, the South African coach revealed that he prefers RRQ to be perceived as underdogs against their rivals.

“We don’t mind being the underdog. If people don’t think we’re good, it’s fuel for us.”

He also stressed that qualifying for Masters is just the beginning as RRQ aims to push further by winning the VCT Pacific title. He highlighted Gen.G Esports—fresh off a dominant victory over Boom Esports—as their next big challenge and urged his team to stay focused on refining their strategies.
