María Sanchez set to join Tigres after leaving San Diego Wave

According to ESPN, María Sanchez — San Diego Wave winger and Mexico international — has reached an agreement to join Tigres in Liga MX Femenil.

The 29-year-old will sign a four-year contract with Tigres — a club she previously represented in 2021. Her final match for the Wave is expected to take place this Sunday against Washington Spirit.

Sanchez who joined Wave in early 2024 with a contract through 2026 — initially arrived as a marquee signing but has recently become more of a rotational option. San Diego Wave will receive a transfer fee for the move.

Sanchez’s arrival is part of Tigres’ squad renewal strategy through NWSL recruitment, following the earlier signing of Mexico international forward Diana Ordóñez from Houston Dash in late May.
