George Russell Becomes Aston Martin’s Main Target for 2026 Season

According to reliable F1 paddock sources, George Russell has become Aston Martin’s primary target to lead the team’s revival in 2026 — coinciding with the biggest regulation change in F1 history.

Aston Martin has appointed legendary designer Adrian Newey to develop a competitive car under new engine and chassis rules. Russell, whose contract with Mercedes expires next year, has yet to sign a contract extension.

“I’m not concerned at all about next year. I know I’ll be on the grid. I feel I’m driving better than ever and still have more potential,” Russell stated after his victory in Montreal.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, remains optimistic about Russell’s future — who has been with Mercedes since age 16. Both parties have agreed on a timeline for contract negotiations in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Aston Martin’s current situation has Fernando Alonso contracted until the end of 2025, while Lance Stroll’s position is influenced by the fact that his father owns the team.
