Gen.G Valorant Coach Reveals Secret to Toppling Boom Esports

Following their decisive victory over Boom Esports in the semifinals of the VCT Pacific 2025 playoffs a few days ago, Gen.G Valorant coach Kim “HSK” Ha-seong revealed that his team had prepared a special strategy to overcome their opponents.

Leading up to last Sunday’s clash (27/04), analysts and fans alike had braced for a nail-biting showdown. Both teams boasted evenly matched rosters and statistically comparable form, but Boom entered the match with slight favoritism due to their stellar group-stage performances.

Gen.G delivered a stunning upset, however, sweeping the series in decisive fashion. The most surprising moment definitely came on Ascent—Boom’s signature map—where Gen.G showcased flawless execution to dismantle their rivals.

This dominance drew admiration and questions from professionals, who were stunned by Gen.G’s convincing performance. Via Valo2Asia, HSK explained that they had rigorously trained for Ascent and ancknowledged it as one of Boom’s favorite picks:

“We used similar compositions until last week and anticipated the possibility of playing Ascent twice this week, so we focused a lot on practicing Ascent. We also knew Boom liked Ascent, so we prioritized it in our prep.”

The result reinforces Gen.G’s reputation for ‘never lose against the same team twice’. Earlier in the VCT Pacific 2025 group stage, they had suffered a heavy defeat against Boom in the first week.

Gen.G has now secured their spot as one of two Pacific teams, alongside RRQ, advancing to Masters Toronto. Despite qualifying for the prestigious event, both teams said that they will push harder and aim for the VCT Pacific title.
