A major upset unfolded in the Grand Finals of The International 2025 Dota 2 SEA Qualifiers as Boom Esports defeated fan favorites Talon Esports 2-1 in the Lower Bracket Finals this evening.

This victory marks Boom Esports’ return to The International after a three-year absence. They last competed in 2022 following a dominant run through that season’s Dota Pro Circuit. That year, they made headlights by eliminating EU’s powerhouse Team Spirit early in the TI 2022 Lower Bracket.

This TI appearance also marks a comeback for two Boom players: Souliya “Jackky” Khoomphetsavong and Timothy “TIMS” Randrup. Both played for The Hungry Beast at TI 2022, moved to other teams afterwards, and finally reunited in Indonesia around October 2024.

Alongside Boom Esports, Southeast Asia will also be represented by Nemesis. They secured their TI 2025 spot with an impressive Upper Bracket run throughout these qualifiers. And despite being a relatively new organization, the organization features a roster full of veteran Filipino Dota 2 players, including Mc “Mac” Villanueva and Polo “Raven” Fausto.

Both teams will compete at The International 2025 in Hamburg, Germany, starting in early September. They are likely to begin major preparations next month.
