Atlético Madrid complete Álex Baena signing from Villarreal

According to ESPN, Álex Baena has officially joined Atlético Madrid from Villarreal in a transfer worth around €50 million including bonuses.

The 23-year-old Spanish midfielder completed his medical examination this morning and signed a five-year contract until 2030 — the club only needs to make the official announcement.

Baena becomes Atlético’s second summer signing after Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta. Next, the Madrid-based club will bring in United States midfielder Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis.

Coach Diego Simeone is also targeting Tottenham defender Cristian Romero to strengthen the defensive line — however, an agreement with the Premier League club remains far from final.
