Lando Norris Reveals Success Secret: From Gran Turismo to Formula 1

Lando Norris, McLaren’s rising star, recently shared his early path to Formula 1 success — and it all began with video games.

Inspired by Gran Turismo and His Father

In an interview on the Pivot Podcast, Norris revealed that his passion for racing was sparked when he was just 3 or 4 years old.

“My father used to play Gran Turismo, and I always wanted to beat him — first with a controller, then progressing to a steering wheel and pedals,” Norris explained.

Family Discipline Shaped His Career

To support his development, Norris’s parents instilled a strong sense of discipline through everyday tasks:

• Completing household chores

• Mowing the lawn

• Performing assigned duties regularly

“Discipline was instilled from an early age. My parents did a great job — not only helping me grow my racing career but also shaping my character with values like humility and good manners,” he added.

Success on Track in 2025 Season

This season, Norris claimed a major victory by winning the Australian Grand Prix from pole position. However, the current drivers’ championship is led by his teammate Oscar Piastri, who has secured four wins from the first six races.
