Zarco and Marquez Discuss Reasons for Leaving Teams

Ahead of the French MotoGP at Silverstone Circuit, veteran riders Johann Zarco and Marc Marquez shared interesting insights about the decisions behind parting ways with their former teams.

Still riding the momentum of his recent French MotoGP win, Johann Zarco made a pointed comment about Marc Marquez’s departure from Honda, suggesting it had an impact on the team’s development budget. The statement came amid ongoing speculation about Jorge Martin potentially leaving Aprilia Racing.

Both Zarco and Marquez have gone through similar experiences:

• Zarco ended his contract with KTM midway through the 2019 season
• Marquez terminated his deal with Honda a year early in late 2023

Despite the similarities, both riders emphasized that each case is unique.

“The situations are different,” both affirmed when asked about Martin’s situation.

For Marc Marquez, the decision to leave Honda was not solely about bike performance. He also faced serious confidence challenges after undergoing multiple surgeries on his right arm between 2020 and 2022.
