Zak Brown Drives Legendary Williams FW11B at Silverstone

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown created a historic moment at Silverstone Circuit while driving the 1987 Williams FW11B — the legendary car that carried Nigel Mansell to an unforgettable victory at the British Grand Prix.

The FW11B featured a 1.5-liter V6 turbo engine capable of producing over 800 horsepower — a powerplant that dominated the 1987 Formula 1 season.

“I’ve become good friends with Nigel. This was the exact car from that famous British Grand Prix where he was leading, had a tire puncture, then broke the lap record,” Brown told ESPN.

Brown revealed the unique way he acquired this historic car:

“I got this when I did a sponsorship deal for Williams. They asked ‘What can we ever do for you,’ and I said ‘you can sell me a car!'”

After driving the car, Brown shared his experience on social media — calling it an incredible experience to drive the Grand Prix-winning car from 38 years ago.

The FW11B will appear at the Goodwood Festival next week to celebrate the championship’s 75th anniversary, with Nigel Mansell set to drive it for the first time since 1986.
