Yuran Fernandes Called Up to Cape Verde National Team During PSSI Suspension

Yuran Fernandes, a key defender for PSM Makassar, has been called up to the Cape Verde national team, potentially making his international debut against Malaysia, despite currently serving a suspension in Indonesia.

Controversial Comments Led to Domestic Ban

The 30-year-old drew headlines earlier this year after publicly criticizing Indonesian football. Through social media, Fernandes controversially compared the level of football in Indonesia to its perceived corruption levels, particularly voicing dissatisfaction over Liga 1 refereeing decisions.

As a result, the PSSI Disciplinary Committee handed him a 12-month suspension from all football activities. However, following an official appeal by PSM Makassar, the ban was reduced to three months, limiting him only within Indonesia.

Opportunity Opens for International Comeback

Though currently sidelined domestically, Yuran Fernandes’ selection to the national squad provides a timely opportunity for him to return to action on the international stage. If featured, the upcoming match against Malaysia may mark his debut appearance for Cape Verde.
