Yann Sommer Tipped for Ballon d’Or After Outshining Yamal

Spanish media, as reported by Bolasport.com, praised Yann Sommer for his brilliant performance and promoted him as a strong Ballon d’Or contender — ahead of Barcelona‘s young star, Lamine Yamal.

This year’s Ballon d’Or race is seen as more open than in the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with no single player standing out as the clear favorite.

Lamine Yamal was previously considered a strong candidate after leading Spain to victory at EURO 2024 and having a chance to win a treble with Barcelona. However, those hopes faded after Inter eliminated Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final with a 7–6 aggregate score.

Hansi Flick’s side lost 4–3 in the second leg at Giuseppe Meazza, after a 3–3 draw in the first leg — marking the end of Barcelona’s campaign in the competition.
