Yamaha unveils new V4 motorcycle at Catalunya for MotoGP revival

According to Bolasport.com, Augusto Fernandez and Andrea Dovizioso are testing Yamaha’s V4 engine prototype motorcycle at Catalunya Circuit, Barcelona.

The testing taking place on June 11-12, 2025 marks a revolutionary step for Yamaha — a manufacturer known for its inline-four engines since the four-stroke era began.

Yamaha became the sole manufacturer with inline-four engine configuration in MotoGP after Suzuki’s departure in late 2022. Meanwhile, four other manufacturers — Aprilia, KTM, Honda, and Ducati — have been using V4 engines that excel in power delivery.

The new motorcycle uses a four-cylinder configuration arranged in V-shape — different from the inline arrangement that has been Yamaha’s trademark with advantages in riding ease and corner speed.
