Yamaha Sets Target to Use V4 Engine for 2026 MotoGP

Paolo Pavesio, Yamaha MotoGP team manager, revealed a clear target to implement their new V4 engine in the 2026 season — marking a significant shift from their current inline-four configuration.

The Japanese manufacturer has been developing the V4 engine since last year, with designs conforming to current technical regulations. This project runs parallel to preparations for their 2027 bike — when all manufacturers must switch to the 850cc formula.

“We have to move into this new engine configuration for 2027. This is somehow a bit of an unknown world, with the bike’s balance changing, so you need to learn things,” explained Pavesio.

Development continues with limited testing. Alex Rins who witnessed testing at Brno reported the bike running approximately two seconds slower per lap than the current race machine. Fabio Quartararo is scheduled to test the V4 motorcycle this September.
