Xabi Alonso’s debut with Real Madrid at Club World Cup ends in draw

Xabi Alonso began his journey as Real Madrid coach with a disappointing result against Al Hilal in the opening match of Group H FIFA Club World Cup 2025 at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami.

The match held on Wednesday (18/6) ended in a 1-1 draw — Madrid initially took the lead through Gonzalo Garcia’s goal in the 34th minute.

The first goal of the Alonso era came when Garcia successfully converted Rodrygo’s pass with an accurate shot into Al Hilal’s net. However, the lead only lasted seven minutes — Ruben Neves managed to equalize from the penalty spot.

“The team still needs patience to find their best rhythm after my arrival,” said Alonso after the match.
