Xabi Alonso reveals new tactical plan for Mbappe at Real Madrid

According to Marca, new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has revealed his plans to give Kylian Mbappe a more dynamic role — a strategy that will soon be tested in his first match as Los Blancos manager.

“Kylian Mbappe is a dynamic striker, not a player who only focuses on a specific position,” stated Alonso. “He’s a number 9 who isn’t fixed to one position but still productive in scoring goals.”

This tactical plan will be implemented when Real Madrid faces Al Hilal in the first matchday of Group H FIFA Club World Cup 2025 at Hard Rock Stadium — a match that marks Madrid’s new era under Alonso’s guidance after Carlo Ancelotti’s departure.

Mbappe — who joined Real Madrid about a year ago on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain — has proven his scoring prowess by becoming La Liga’s top scorer last season with 31 goals, surpassing Robert Lewandowski who netted 27 goals.
