Wrexham to face Southampton in Championship opener

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney‘s Wrexham AFC — will begin their historic Championship journey with an opening fixture against Southampton this season.

Wrexham — becoming the first club in English football history to achieve three consecutive promotions — faces a challenging start with an away fixture against Millwall and matches against Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion in their first five games.

Tom Brady‘s Birmingham City will begin their campaign against Ipswich Town on August 9. The so-called “Hollywood Derby” between Wrexham and Birmingham City is scheduled for October 4.

Several key derby matches have been scheduled this season:

• Southampton vs Portsmouth – September 13
• Ipswich vs Norwich – October 4
• Portsmouth vs Southampton – January 24

The relegated Premier League teams — Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich — are ready to fight for their return to the top flight. Leicester will start their campaign against Oxford United and Preston North End before facing Frank Lampard‘s Coventry City.
