Williams F1 Faces Cooling Issues Affecting Team Performance

According to reports from Silverstone circuit, Williams team principal James Vowles revealed that his team continues to address cooling issues significantly impacting car performance in the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz — Williams’ drivers — have experienced serious engine cooling problems in recent races in Spain, Canada, and Austria. Albon was forced to retire in Montreal and Spielberg, while Sainz faced excessive heat issues with the brake system.

“We have temporary solutions that allow the car to complete races, but it comes at the cost of performance. What we’re looking for is solutions that ensure we’re not sacrificing any performance going forward,” Vowles explained.

The team has implemented different testing programs for both drivers in Silverstone’s first practice session. Williams also plans to bring minor updates to next week’s Belgian Grand Prix — a move hoped to help the British team maintain its position in the tight midfield battle against an increasingly competitive Sauber.
