Wenger Admits Club World Cup Pitch Quality in USA Not Up to Standard

FIFA Global Football Development chief Arsene Wenger has acknowledged that the pitch quality at Club World Cup matches in the United States falls short of expectations — but guarantees improvements before the 2026 World Cup.

The dry pitch conditions requiring watering during match breaks have drawn criticism from European coaches and players. “I’ve personally inspected the pitch in Orlando — it’s not up to the standard European clubs are accustomed to, but this will be addressed for next year’s World Cup,” stated the former Arsenal manager.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has been among the most vocal critics of the tournament’s facilities.

“The ball bounces like a rabbit. This field used to be artificial turf now covered with natural grass, requiring manual watering. It’s a major problem for our style of play,” Enrique said after his team’s 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid.

“FIFA needs to take this seriously. Not just the match fields but also training grounds. If this is called the world’s best club tournament, the facilities should be world-class.”
