New Women’s Football W7F Tournament Debuts with $5M Prize Pool

The World Sevens Football (W7F) tournament, a brand-new 7-a-side women’s football format, will make its debut from May 21–23 at the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota in Estoril, Portugal.

Eight top European clubsAjax, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Manchester City, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Roma, and Rosengard — will battle for a $5 million prize pool, with $2.5 million awarded to the winner.

Fast-paced matches and dynamic tournament structure

W7F is designed to offer high-tempo and spectator-friendly football. Matches will last 30 minutes (two halves), with each team allowed 25-player squads and unlimited substitutions. The clubs are split into two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage.

It’s going to be tactically crazy and entertaining. The players are very excited to participate,” said Marc Skinner, Manchester United manager.

Global ambitions for future tournaments

The event is organized by Jennifer Mackesy and Justin Fishkin, with a distinguished advisory board featuring USWNT World Cup champions Tobin Heath and Kelley O’Hara. All matches will be broadcast live via DAZN, and fans attending the event can enjoy a Fan Fest with interactive entertainment and activities.

Following this debut edition, W7F plans to host its next tournament in North America during the second half of 2025.
