Max Verstappen has shown diplomatic restraint in addressing McLaren’s rear wing flexibility controversy at the Japanese GP, as reported by Motorsport.com.

“I’m not disappointed about it — everyone tries to do their best and some people read the regulations differently,” stated the F1 world champion during the media session at Bahrain GP.

“I don’t make the rules and I’m not the one enforcing them either,” added Verstappen.

The controversy emerged after X footage showed McLaren’s rear wing appearing flexible under load, contrasting with Red Bull’s more stable wing structure.

Verstappen’s careful approach differs from last year’s Singapore GP incident — where his harsh comments about McLaren’s “mini-DRS” resulted in community service in Rwanda.

FIA has issued new Technical Directives with tolerance limits:

  • 0.25mm for 75kg vertical load test on mainplane
  • Reduction from previous 0.5mm standard
  • Last year’s maximum slot gap was 2mm

While no official comment has been made, FIA is reportedly aware of the video and will conduct intense scrutiny in Bahrain before new technical directives take effect at Spanish GP.
