Verstappen Optimistic Ahead of Canadian GP Despite FP2 Performance Drop

Max Verstappen shows optimism ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix — despite experiencing a performance drop during the second free practice session at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

The Red Bull driver recorded the fastest time in the first session, but slipped to ninth position in FP2 — a situation he says needs further investigation regarding car balance.

“FP2 was indeed more difficult for several reasons. I think we lost something with the car in terms of balance that we need to investigate. But overall, it was quite a positive day for us,” said Verstappen.

The defending Canadian GP champion acknowledges this year’s competition will be different — with McLaren showing dominance and Mercedes demonstrating significant performance improvements.

  • Red Bull has backup drivers ready
  • Verstappen is just one penalty point away from a race ban
  • The incident with George Russell in Barcelona added penalty points

“If we can fight for a podium with Ferrari and Mercedes, that would already be a good achievement,” added the Dutch driver.
