Verstappen Experiences “Horrible” Race at British GP Due to Wing Issues

Max Verstappen admits that the British Grand Prix turned into an extremely challenging race — the choice of a low downforce wing proved to be less than ideal when rain fell at Silverstone.

Despite securing pole position on Saturday, the Red Bull car’s performance drastically declined in wet track conditions. Verstappen lost control and spun before the lap 22 restart — forcing him down to tenth position.

“It wasn’t easy, our pace was just not good from the start. I really had to hold onto the wheel strongly, otherwise it could have gone wrong many more times,” the Dutch driver told Viaplay.

Though managing to climb to fifth position by the race end, Verstappen acknowledged his performance was far below expectations. Unexpected weather changes were a major factor — the forecast shifted dramatically the night before the race.

This result keeps Verstappen third in the standings — 69 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri who finished second in McLaren’s 1-2 victory at Silverstone.
