Verstappen chooses to watch 24 Hours of Spa after Austrian GP crash

Max Verstappen crashed with Mercedes rookie driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli at turn three on the first lap of Austrian GP — forcing the four-time world champion out of the race.

Instead of joining his team in the garage or pit wall, Verstappen chose to watch the 24 Hours of Spa race. “To be honest, I didn’t really follow the F1 race, I was watching the Spa 24,” he told reporters.

Verstappen.com Racing Aston Martin team — driven by Chris Lulham, Harry King, and Thierry Vermeulen — claimed victory in the Gold class at Spa-Francorchamps.

“For us to be P9 overall and win our class in our first attempt — that’s something we can be very proud of,” said Verstappen.

Meanwhile, Verstappen’s teammate Yuki Tsunoda had a difficult day after colliding with Alpine driver Franco Colapinto — resulting in a 10-second time penalty and last place finish.

“The collision with Franco is my bad. It was quite a poor move and I must apologize to the team,” said Tsunoda who is still struggling to adapt to the car that has brought his teammate four world titles.
