Verstappen Addresses Mercedes Transfer Rumors for 2026

Paddock discussions at the Austrian GP are dominated by Max Verstappen’s future following George Russell’s comments suggesting the Dutch driver is on Mercedes’ radar.

Russell revealed in Montreal and Spielberg that there were “talks” with Verstappen — a statement that triggered various questions to involved parties, including Toto Wolff and Verstappen himself.

“I don’t need to talk about that. My focus is just on driving well and pushing performance,” Verstappen stated during the press conference.

The F1 world champion offered interesting insights about the 2026 regulations — a key factor in his decision. “In terms of pure engine power, it’s quite close. The question mark is the battery, and nobody knows about that,” he explained.

Verstappen emphasized that current team success doesn’t guarantee future dominance — Mercedes’ previous strength was challenged by Red Bull in the new regulation era, while McLaren has also managed to raise their performance.
