Vanenburg’s U-23 Debut: Indonesia Crushes Brunei 8-0

Gerald Vanenburg began his tenure as Indonesia U-23 head coach with an impressive result — a dominant 8–0 win over Brunei Darussalam at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta.

The match, played on Tuesday (15/7), was the Group A opener of the 2025 ASEAN Cup U-23, where Indonesia is grouped with:

• Philippines
• Malaysia
• Brunei Darussalam

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir praised the team’s performance under Vanenburg.

“It was a good start, and it’s Coach Gerald’s first time. He focused on two weeks of training,” said Thohir. “From what I saw, the first half performance was really solid.”
