Vanenburg on Jens Raven’s Celebration in ASEAN U-23 Cup

Gerald Vanenburg, head coach of the Indonesia U-23 national team, issued a clarification regarding Jens Raven’s controversial celebration at the 2025 ASEAN U-23 Cup.

The controversy arose after Raven performed a “Pacu Jalur” dance celebration following his six-goal performance in the 8–0 victory over Brunei. His coach initially responded with a strong warning, deeming the action inappropriate under the circumstances.

Ahead of the team’s next match against the Philippines, Vanenburg clarified that he does not ban dancing celebrations, but believes players should consider timing and context.

“I don’t ban celebrations, but there’s a right time to do it,” said the 61-year-old coach.

Vanenburg’s remarks stress the importance of sportsmanship and respect toward opponents, especially when holding a large lead.
