Vanenburg Aims for Victory against the Philippines at ASEAN U-23

Indonesia U-23 head coach Gerald Vanenburg has made it clear that securing a win is the main target as his side prepares to face the Philippines in their second Group A match of the 2025 ASEAN U-23 Championship. The crucial clash will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta.

The Garuda Muda squad completed their final training session at Madya Stadium GBK today, fine-tuning tactics and fitness ahead of what could be a decisive fixture.

Vanenburg acknowledged that the match will not be easy, especially with the Philippines U-23 team coming off a confident 2–0 win over Malaysia just two days ago under head coach Garrath McPherson.

“The Philippines are not an easy opponent — they have quality players, even though many come from university teams,” said Gerald Vanenburg, as quoted by Bolasport.com.

The Dutch tactician emphasized the importance of maintaining tactical discipline and high intensity from the very first whistle. He urged his players to stay focused and not underestimate the threat posed by the Philippines, who have shown promising form early in the tournament.

This match serves as a crucial test for Indonesia, who are aiming to secure qualification from the group stage and make a strong impact in one of Southeast Asia’s top youth football competitions.
