Vanenburg Sticks to 5 Starters in ASEAN U-23 Group Stage

Gerald Vanenburg showed consistency in picking five regular starters in every group stage match at the 2025 ASEAN U-23 Cup. The Indonesia U-23 national team, which held a three-week training camp before the tournament, topped Group A.

Garuda Muda delivered an impressive performance, defeating Brunei Darussalam 8-0 and the Philippines 1-0, and drawing 0-0 against Malaysia. Kadek Arel and his teammates displayed solid football under the guidance of the Dutch coach.

“I think four days is four days. This is a tournament, and we play every three days,” Vanenburg said regarding the schedule. “Now we have four days, one more day before the semifinal — that’s already a big difference. We will try to prepare ourselves.”

Out of the 33 players who started across the three matches, Vanenburg consistently fielded the same five players in each game.
