Virgil van Dijk has signed a two-year contract extension with Liverpool, ending speculation about his future at the club.

The 33-year-old center-back joined Liverpool in January 2017 from Southampton — for a world-record defender transfer fee of £75 million.

During seven seasons at Anfield, Van Dijk has accumulated various prestigious trophies:

  • Champions League 2019
  • Premier League 2020
  • UEFA Super Cup
  • FIFA Club World Cup 2020
  • Carabao Cup 2024

His Liverpool debut became an unforgettable moment — scoring the winning goal in the 84th minute against Everton in the FA Cup third round.

Van Dijk’s individual achievements have been impressive — he was selected as UEFA’s best player and best defender after appearing in all of Liverpool‘s matches during their Champions League triumph.

This contract extension marks a new era for Liverpool, following the departure of manager Jürgen Klopp, who ended his nine-year career at the club with the Carabao Cup trophy last year.
