Valentino Rossi has always shared a special connection with Spanish circuits — and Jerez was the scene of one of the most unusual victories of his legendary career.

Known for his thrilling comebacks and overtaking maneuvers, The Doctor defied expectations at the 2016 Spanish MotoGP by delivering a dominant performance from start to finish.

Unlike most of his races, where he climbs from mid-pack, Rossi secured pole position, led every lap, and crossed the finish line without ever being challenged.

Statistically, this was a rarity. Out of 199 podiums and 115 wins, Rossi only earned 65 pole positions, making this flag-to-flag victory a true outlier.

According to MotoGP.com, Jerez 2016 remains the only race in Rossi’s career where he led from the very start to the end.

Despite predictions of a tight battle with home favorites Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez, neither could threaten Rossi’s control of the race.
