Valencia Marathon

Valencia Marathon

The Valencia Marathon is the best Spanish road race, rightfully awarded platinum status. Its main feature is its accessibility, unlike its fellows from the “Big Six”. Almost anyone can take part in the marathon, which takes place in the most beautiful part of the city of Valencia.

History of the Valencia Marathon

The first Valencia Marathon was held in 1981. The initiator of the mass sporting event was a handful of runners from SD Correcaminos. Later, the club became one of the largest in the country. In the nineties, many in Spain were skeptical about jogging and wary of those who ran on the streets.

Initially, the city streets were not even closed, and when the city administration decided to do so, the residents of Valencia were unhappy. A few years later, the situation changed dramatically. In Spain, people began to gravitate toward a healthy lifestyle, and fans came out to cheer on the runners and were already looking forward to the next year.
