US women’s team defeats Canada 3-0 in friendly match

The United States women’s national team extended their dominance with a 3-0 victory over Canada in a friendly match in Washington.

Claire Hutton scored her first international goal in her sixth appearance — the 19-year-old striker netted the team’s second goal in the 36th minute. Sam Coffey opened the scoring in the 17th minute, while Yazmeen Ryan sealed the victory in the closing moments.

Coach Emma Hayes made 10 changes to the starting lineup compared to their previous match against Ireland.

“They ensured the team’s standards remained high,” Hayes said. “They played the way we wanted and they ran the show superbly.”

Two of the three US goals came from set pieces — Coffey capitalized on Rose Lavelle’s free kick, while Hutton headed in from a corner kick.

The US women’s team will continue their preparation with two friendly matches in September:

  • Against South Korea in Harrison, New Jersey
  • Facing Japan in Columbus, Ohio
