US Soccer Legend Tobin Heath Announces Retirement After Long-term Injury

Tobin Heath, former United States women’s national soccer team player, has announced her retirement from professional football — a decision that comes after a lengthy battle with a serious left knee injury.

The 37-year-old midfielder leaves behind an extraordinary legacy in her 13-year career with the US national team — securing two World Cup titles and two Olympic gold medals, while recording 181 appearances before her final match in 2021.

At club level, Heath carved out remarkable achievements — winning two NWSL championships with Portland Thorns and two NWSL Shields, one with Thorns and another with Seattle Reign.

“I tried everything to get back, spent tens of thousands of dollars and underwent two surgeries, one of them incredibly complex. Throughout that time, I believed I would return to playing,” Heath revealed on “The RE-CAP Show” podcast.

“I never played to be famous or for people to care about me. I played because I loved it,” she added sincerely.

Heath’s professional career also included European experience — playing for prestigious clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain, before her final match in August 2022.
