Unai Emery remains optimistic about Aston Villa’s chances in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals — even after a 3-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg at Parc des Princes.

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for Villa, but the French champions responded with goals from Désiré Doué, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Nuno Mendes.

“The third goal doesn’t change much,” said Emery post-match. “We still need to win at home by more than one goal. It’s a big challenge, but we will be strong at Villa Park with our fans behind us.”

Rogers echoed his coach’s sentiments: “We didn’t come here just to be spectators. PSG are full of stars, but we have the quality to match any team in the world.”

Aston Villa’s home form has been exceptional this season, boasting four wins in five Champions League matches — including four clean sheets. The decisive second leg will take place next Tuesday at Villa Park.
