UK Parliament approves new regulation for professional football clubs

The UK House of Commons has approved the Football Governance Bill — a regulation that will establish a watchdog for professional clubs. The voting resulted in 415 votes in favor against 98 votes against.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy emphasized that this regulation will oversee Premier League and English Football League (EFL) clubs — with the main goal of ensuring sustainable club management and preventing bankruptcy.

“We promised in our manifesto to end years of inaction and make the changes that fans have fought for for so long,” said Nandy.

“This is for Macclesfield, Wigan, Bury, Bolton, Derby, Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Morecambe and many more who have had to endure the misery of being put last when they should have been put first,” she added.
