UEFA Imposes Heavy Fines on Chelsea and Barcelona

UEFA has taken strict action against financial monitoring rule violations — Chelsea has been fined €20 million and Barcelona must pay €15 million.

The investigation into Chelsea focused on the £76.5 million transaction involving two hotel sales between BlueCo 22 Ltd subsidiaries — a penalty matching UEFA’s previous record fines imposed on Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in 2014.

In a separate case, financially troubled Lyon received a €12.5 million fine. The club owned by American businessman John Textor is facing an appeal regarding potential relegation from Ligue 1 and possible exclusion from next season’s Europa League.

Both major European clubs also face potential additional fines if they fail to meet UEFA’s established financial targets.
