U.S. Soccer Forms Committee to Evaluate College Soccer System

U.S. Soccer has just announced the formation of a committee that will evaluate the college soccer system — a move that could potentially transform the landscape of the sport comprehensively.

Dan Helfrich, principal at Deloitte Consulting, will lead the committee consisting of 18 members from various soccer industry backgrounds. This committee is formed amid major changes in college sports, especially following the court decision enabling payment for student-athletes.

“College soccer is integral to the fabric and future of our sport in this country,” said JT Batson, U.S. Soccer CEO.

Key figures joining the committee include:

  • Adrian Hanauer – co-owner of Seattle Sounders and Seattle Reign
  • Angie Long – co-owner of Kansas City Current
  • Richard Motzkin – executive from Wasserman player agency
  • Representatives from MLS, NWSL, and USL
  • Representatives from leading college programs

The committee will focus on system updates covering more than 50,000 college soccer players — with implementation changes planned to begin in the 2026-27 academic year.
