Two Red Cards Serve as Valuable Lesson for Indonesia U-23 Team

Indonesia U-23 national team learned a valuable lesson from the ASEAN Cup seven months ago — two red cards received by Muhammad Ferarri and Marselino Ferdinan contributed to the team’s elimination in the group stage.

Both red card incidents occurred in different matches — Ferarri was sent off during the 3-3 draw against Laos, while Ferdinan received his marching orders in the 0-1 defeat to Philippines.

“I can only express disappointment,” stated Shin Tae-yong after the match. “Ferarri got a red card due to unnecessary and excessive reaction.”

The tournament marked Shin Tae-yong’s final campaign with the Indonesian national team — the young Garuda squad, mostly under 22 years old, must learn to control their emotions ahead of ASEAN Cup U-23 2025.
