Two NASCAR Drivers Disqualified After Talladega Race

Post-Race Inspection Reveals Technical Violations

Ryan Preece and Joey Logano were disqualified from their finishing positions at Talladega Superspeedway following a NASCAR Cup Series post-race inspection. Officials discovered technical violations involving both cars’ rear spoilers.

Austin Cindric’s victory in the No. 2 Team Penske Ford remains valid. However, the disqualifications prompted a reshuffling of the top five standings: Kyle Larson moved to second place, William Byron to third, Noah Gragson to fourth, and Chase Elliott to fifth.

The inspection revealed that Preece’s No. 60 Ford had an additional carbon fiber shim on the rear spoiler, while Logano’s No. 22 Ford had a bolt that was improperly secured.

Impact on Final Standings

The disqualifications caused significant changes in the final results. Preece dropped from 12th to 18th place, while Logano fell from 8th to 11th. Despite the setbacks, Austin Cindric’s win remains unaffected.

Team Responses to Disqualifications

  • Team Penske Accepts Penalty

In a statement, Team Penske explained:

“One of the 18 bolts on the surface of the spoiler that connect to the base was found to be loose. This was not intentional and happened throughout the course of the race event. Team Penske accepts the disqualification.”

The team confirmed that they will not appeal the decision.

RFK Racing Yet to Decide

Meanwhile, RFK Racing, representing Ryan Preece, has not yet announced whether they will appeal the disqualification.
