Two Bundesliga clubs — Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund — experienced disappointing results in the Champions League quarter-finals first leg about a year ago.

Bayern Munich, playing at Allianz Arena, suffered a 1-2 defeat against Inter Milan — despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances. Harry Kane’s squad failed to break through the visitors’ solid defense.

A similar fate befell Borussia Dortmund, who had to accept a heavy 0-4 defeat when visiting Barcelona‘s home ground.

Niko Kovac’s team was powerless against the aggressive play of the hosts in Spain.

This situation is reminiscent of the previous season — when both German clubs also failed to achieve positive results at the same stage.

The first-leg losses have left both Bundesliga representatives with a steep uphill task in the return legs. With crucial home and away matches ahead, both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund—must produce exceptional performances to turn the tide and keep their Champions League campaigns alive.
