Twente struggling to sell Mees Hilgers despite high value

FC Twente faces a complex situation regarding the future of Mees Hilgers — the Indonesian national team’s key defender who remains under contract until 2026.

The Dutch club plans to release Hilgers during this summer’s transfer window, but there are no signs of an agreement with other clubs being reached.

“Currently, there are no concrete offers from clubs for Hilgers,” reveals Leon ten Voorde, a Dutch journalist who has long followed Twente’s developments. “It’s been the club’s practice to sell first before getting new players for the same position.”

This situation puts Twente in a difficult position — they need fresh funds to bring in new players, but haven’t managed to find serious buyers for Hilgers.
