England manager Thomas Tuchel made a crucial tactical decision by substituting Jude Bellingham during their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Latvia. England secured a 3-0 victory at Wembley Stadium, but Bellingham’s potential second yellow card created tense moments.

Goals from Reece James, Harry Kane, and Eberechi Eze powered England to the top of Group K. However, the match took a turn when Bellingham committed a dangerous tackle on Latvian defender Raivis Jurkovskis.

“We were a bit lucky. That situation could have led to a second yellow and changed the game — that’s why I made the substitution,” said Tuchel.

Tuchel added:

“The first yellow felt harsh since he was dribbling. But the second one was possible. I didn’t want to risk it, so I took him off.”

Despite Latvia’s defensive stance, Tuchel praised his squad’s performance, highlighting back-to-back clean sheets and minimal chances conceded.
