Diogo Jota, Liverpool and Portugal national team striker, has died in a car accident in Zamora, Spain.

The tragic incident occurred on the A-52 highway in Palacios de Sanabria area — the car carrying Jota and his brother suffered a fatal accident and caught fire.

“Two young people died in an accident on A-52. The Rionegro del Puente Fire Station responded to the incident,” stated the official statement from Zamora Provincial Council.

“The vehicle caught fire and flames spread to vegetation. They were 28 and 26 years old. Rest in peace,” the statement continued.

The Porto-born player began his professional career with Pacos de Ferreira club — before eventually joining Liverpool and becoming one of the team’s key players.
