Tragedy in Spain – Diogo Jota and Brother Die in Car Accident

Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota along with his brother André Silva have died in a car accident near the city of Zamora, Spain — as confirmed by the Civil Guard to Associated Press.

The vehicle carrying both footballers went off the road and caught fire — no other vehicles were involved in the incident. The Spanish Civil Guard is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Jota, aged 28, had recently celebrated his marriage to Rute Cardoso and was father to three children. During his Liverpool career since 2020, he made 182 appearances and claimed several prestigious titles.

“Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota,” read the club’s official statement. “We will continue to provide them with our full support.”

André Silva, 25, who was also a professional player at Portuguese club Penafiel, became a victim in this tragedy. The Portuguese Football Federation has requested UEFA to hold a minute’s silence before the women’s national team match against Spain.
