Tragedy in operating room – Young San Telmo player dies during knee surgery

Camilo Ernesto Nuin, an 18-year-old midfielder from Argentine Second Division club San Telmo, passed away during a knee procedure commonly performed on athletes — surgery to address meniscus and ligament injuries.

San Telmo announced the tragic news through their official social media account. As a mark of respect, the club decided to close all facilities.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Camilo Ernesto Nuin, a player in our Youth and Reserve Divisions, who was undergoing surgery today,” the club statement read.

The left-footed midfielder joined San Telmo about three years ago after developing his skills at major Argentine academies — Boca Juniors and Independiente.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) through president Claudio Tapia and Executive Committee expressed condolences. The club and local authorities have not revealed the specific cause of Nuin’s death, though investigations are ongoing.
