Toyota Technical Director Disappointed with Le Mans 24 Hours Performance

David Floury, Toyota Gazoo Racing technical director, expressed his frustration with racing regulations after their team failed to compete effectively at Le Mans 24 Hours.

“Clearly, we haven’t reached our goal. The goal coming here was to win, so it’s not reached,” Floury stated after the race.

Toyota only managed to finish fifth and fifteenth — far below the Japanese manufacturer’s expectations. Data showed that Toyota and Aston Martin recorded the lowest top speeds at 342.3 km/h, while Ferrari led with 349.0 km/h.

The team faced various technical challenges — car number #8 driven by Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa briefly led the race but experienced front-left wheel issues during a morning pit stop.

Floury detailed the areas where their car lost speed:

  • Between Tertre Rouge and first chicane
  • Between first and second chicane
  • Between second chicane and Mulsanne
  • Between Mulsanne and Indianapolis
  • Between Arnage and Porsche curves

Car number #7 piloted by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries also suffered a first-turn incident causing bodywork damage — yet still managed to finish fifth after Ferrari #50’s disqualification.
