Tottenham Hotspur fined by FA for homophobic chants by supporters

Tottenham Hotspur has received a £75,000 fine from the Football Association (FA) — related to their supporters’ misconduct involving homophobic chants during an away match against Manchester United.

The incident that occurred about nine months ago at Old Trafford was immediately condemned by the club — who then cooperated with local police to identify the perpetrators.

After review, the independent regulatory commission initially imposed a £150,000 fine along with an action plan and warning. However, after filing an appeal, the fine was successfully reduced to half.

The FA stated that Tottenham Hotspur failed to ensure their supporters behaved in an orderly manner — with chants containing sexual orientation-based insults being heard in the 49th and 79th minutes of the match.
