Toto Wolff Gives Advice to McLaren After Teammates Collision Incident

According to Formula1.com, Toto Wolff shared his perspective following the collision between McLaren teammates — Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri — at the Canadian GP.

The Mercedes team principal sees similarities with the situation he managed during the intense rivalry between Hamilton and Rosberg about nine years ago. “I was an actor in this kind of situation,” Wolff said while reflecting on the 2016 championship battle.

“It’s difficult because drivers are calibrated and conditioned to become champions — particularly in Formula 1,” Wolff explained.

McLaren needs to establish clear rules early on to keep their drivers in check. Wolff emphasized that the situation becomes more complex when the constructors’ championship is also at stake.

Norris, now trailing his teammate by 22 points, immediately acknowledged his mistake after the incident.

“I’m sorry. All my fault. I acted stupidly,” Norris said over team radio.

The British driver also expressed his regret for letting down the team and Piastri — who he said had raced fairly until the collision moment.
