Toronto FC Terminates Contracts with Two Italian Stars

Toronto FC has announced a mutual agreement to terminate the contracts of two former Italian internationals — Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi.

The MLS club utilized its two allowable contract termination options per season to part ways with both former Juventus players — Insigne being the second-highest paid player in MLS after Lionel Messi with guaranteed compensation of $15.44 million, while Bernardeschi ranked fifth with $6.29 million.

“The Club would like to thank Lorenzo for his efforts over the last three years. After several meaningful discussions, we are happy to have found a solution that is agreeable to all parties,” stated Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez.

Insigne recorded 19 goals and 18 assists in 76 matches for Toronto, while Bernardeschi contributed 25 goals and 12 assists in 88 appearances during his tenure with the club.
